Wildfire Haibun

One smells the smoke first
Before learning where the fire is
A kind of small talk
Where it is exactly, that’s burning
Gives me such a headache
Does it seem like something’s burning?
Is the fire in the room with us right now
Just nod or shake your headache
Don’t have to say anything

Cornfields in Minnesota
In the winter they turn to pastures of kindling
Or the fur of some, great beast breathing
